What is a giclée?
A giclée is a fine-art print, and is used to describe a print produced by spraying ink onto the paper from nozzles. I chose as my printer, Trillium Press, because of their experience with all printing methods from stone lithographs and multimedia hand-made prints to inkjet. Trillium scans the original painting using a 4 X 5 Linhof with a digital back and Rodenstock lenses. My giclées on paper were printed on an Iris 3047. The colorfast ink was forced at 90 miles per hour into the fiber of heavy weight archival paper. The canvas is printed on an epson 9600 or 9800 with colorfast dyes.
We work together on the proofing process to achieve a print that is faithful to the original oil on canvas. This process is very much more expensive to produce than an offset print, but you will see why I have chosen this process for my work. The ink is guaranteed to not fade. Another real and major difference in these giclée prints is that once an image is digitally archived, prints can be made one at a time. This means that now a fine quality print can be made of any of my original paintings.
