Moved with family to California in 1944, where my father started a small machine shop, which, with the help of the whole family, grew into part of the Silicon Valley story. My brother David and sister Linda still work at Western Grinding Service in Belmont.
With my family's blessings, I left the office in 1967 to pursue my art career full time. I built myself a studio in the redwood forest on Kings Mountain. I am a self-taught artist, learning from my artist friends, and also, by directly observing nature's amazing beauty wherever I went. I traveled to art fairs throughout the West with fellow artists in the "California School of Environmental Painters". Well-known artists such as George Sumner and Michael Protiva emerged from this group. We then exhibited paintings in galleries such as Swanson's and other galleries on Fisherman's Wharf, and LaHaina Galleries in Hawaii, Simic Gallery in Carmel, and others.
In 1990 I decided to not work through galleries any longer, but to show my work only in places where I could represent myself and personally communicate with the people who collected my work. I enjoy a loyal following of well-known collectors and private art patrons. Also people who bought paintings from galleries or have seen my work elsewhere are finding me through this web site.
Each Labor Day Weekend I participate in the annual Kings Mountain Art Fair, which is a fund-raiser that supports our community's volunteer fire department. My paintings are now available as limited-edition archival giclée prints on canvas. They can be produced one at a time by order once the original oil on canvas is digitally archived and proofed.
My original oils are available by appointment and by commission. I have been enjoying painting in the new studio I built last year here at Lobitos Creek Ranch. When I have a show of my originals, I can let you know by e-mail. Send me an email to be on my list.
For some years now, I also have been expanding my art into the world of video and multi-media. I've been working with Steve Michelson here at Lobitos Creek Ranch, where I am the art director and involved in video shooting, editing, graphics and producing. Check out our web site at http://www.lobitoscreekranch.com
Whether I'm working in oil or video, my goal - what I feel is my job in life - has always been to communicate through my work my love of the land and share in the celebration of the beauty of our natural world.
